September 2017 Newsletter
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1st. Lovely morning for the adult session, Stanley Greedy came along to see if our club would suit his needs. Good evening session with the junior members enjoying the bowls and the "Bowls + (plus)" games
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 2nd. The count-down to the end of our summer season has begun, 2 weeks today we close. Today I began informing our members of how the winter Bowls + (plus) project will be organized. Well attended session this morning, lovely Autumn sunshine, plenty of laughter, plenty of clapping as is usual.
We had an email this week from Gemma, one of our members who is now living in England telling us about herself an Rhiley, her son who is now 14 months old and saying that she will come and visit us when she can.
Earlier this week at an evening session, there was an accident in the park where a boy who we now know as Benjamin fell off his bike and cut his head. We brought him into the pavilion and one of our First Aiders, Chris examined the injury and cleaned him up. He was OK. We found out where he lived and one of our junior members mother, Debbie took him home.
The next evening, who was at our club gate?, Benjamin, who had come to thank everyone for helping him. Well done Chris and Debbie.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 5th. We welcomed Meriel (Community Coordinator) along with Bethan to our morning session. Meriel has given our club valuable support and we thank her for that.
Our morning session was cut short due to the weather.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8th. Kay called in with the menu for our dinner planned for Tuesday September 26th. Managed to get our morning and evening sessions played today.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 9th. Weather not very good today, yet we still had 20 bowlers turn up for the session.
We welcomed Ellen to our club today.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 12th. 2 full rinks for the morning session, by popular demand, I invited our lady members to come along next Tuesday 19th and help prepare the clubhouse for the winter season which by the way, opens on Saturday 14th October.
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 13th. It was my pleasure to present Taylor Arundell with a certificate for being the Outstanding Junior Club Member of 2017.
The thoughts of all our members are with Kay tonight.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 15th. Huge turnout of members to celebrate Gwyn's 70th birthday. Magnificent buffet along with a birthday cake prepared and enjoyed by the members. All our best wishes Gwyn. The icing on the cake was Kay coming along.
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 16th. Our last session of the Summer Season today. Lovely sunny morning enabled our members to enjoy their game. The highlight of the day was Kay coming along and playing a game and lifting everyone's spirits. Thank you Kay. Everything is not over for this year however, we have a dinner shortly and then the "Winter Bowls+(Plus)" project to follow in October.
Thanks to everyone for making the summer season an enjoyable success.
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 26th. Our end of season dinner in the Dunraven Hotel and what a wonderful, enjoyable evening it was. It got off to a great start when Kay entered and everyone clapped for her. The room was filled to capacity with everyone ready to enjoy good food, conversation and entertainment. Dave the Rave provided the music while we enjoyed our meal and our cabaret starred the Rhondda Diamond (better known to us as Dean, one of our members).
Thank you Dave and Dean for a great night.
Thank you to Nick and Ruth and the staff for serving us well.
Last but not least, to Kay for organizing this evening for us.
