TREHERBERT BOWLS CLUB
REVIEW OF 2023
INTRODUCTION
At the start of the year, the cladding of the outside of the club was work in progress but the refurbishment of the inside
was completed and every thing is looking great. We were looking forward to the installation of the park equipment we had commissioned
Following on from the restrictions we were under during the pandemic, we increased the numbers at each session for the winter season, up to 10 by the end of last year, we were then planning to increase the number at each session to the maximum capacity of 12 to meet the increasing demand for membership.
THE SPORT
WINTER SEASON
We had a full membership who fully used the number of sessions available per week which was 30 at the start of the season. We did a trial during the last month by increasing the capacity from 10 at each session to 12 and it worked very well. With this in mind, next winter we will be able to increase the membership capacity from 30 to 36, This will help us meet the increasing demand for membership.
SUMMER SEASON
The club has now been fully refurbished inside and fully insulated and clad outside, With the green now recovered from the Leather-jacket infestation it is looking fantastic. Our thanks go to the Parks Department for their hard work.
This summer we continued our partnership with the Autism Centre.
In May, installation of the Zip-wire was completed, The 3 items our club donated to the park are now all in popular use. I would like to mention our thanks to the Parks Department for their assistance throughout this project, in particular Adam Kettley and Lisa Austin, also the installation team.
In June, we welcomed Senedd member for Rhondda Buffy Williams to our club and gave her a tour of our facilities. She met our members and enjoyed short game of bowls.
We continued to welcome PenPych and Penyrenglyn Primary Schools to sessions.
The schools match was an outstanding success. The new target lay-out was very popular with the pupils, they scored heavily, which gave them a lot of enjoyment. PenPycn won the match in a close contest.
In the clubhouse, the pupils enjoyed the refreshments, the presentation of the cups and the friendliness of the two teams was a pleasure to see on a great occasion. The pupils thanked the coaches with a round of applause. We thanked Councillor Will Jones for attending and presenting the cups. This will be a day the pupil will never forget and so will everyone who was there.
In July, we attended an event to officially open the three items of equipment we donated to Treherbert Park (a Bouncy roundabout, a trampoline and a zip-wire). This event was organized and attended by local councillors Scott Emanuel and Will Jones. We would like to express our appreciation to Scott and Will and the community on behalf of all our members for a memorable evening.
Mike made a surprize announcement; he and Rose are getting married in September. Everyone at the club was delighted with this news and wished them well. Great news, great story/
There was another special occasion, our Chairman Sam married Jodie. Everyone at the club congratulated Sam and Jodie and gave them their best wishes.
September, end of season approaching. Rose had her Hen-night on Monday 4th and Mike and Rose got married on Saturday 9th. All our members gave them their best wishes.
Clive and Chris announced the arrival of their first great-grandchild.
