April 2021 Newsletter
Thursday 1st April. Following the Welsh Government statement today, there was no indication that our season will begin on April 17th, The good news is that our bowls season will begin on Monday 26th April, this will be confirmed by the welsh government at the next review on April 22nd/23rd.
Monday 5th April. When we start the summer season, we will operate as we were at the latter end of the summer, only the toilets will be available in the clubhouse. We are led to believe that around the second half of May, we will be able to use the clubhouse fully including socialising but maintaining the basic social distancing (following the guidelines).
We have planned the way the clubhouse will be arranged when we can use it, photos below. The table in the centre will be for refreshments, The equipment, bowls etc., will be available for you to pick up as you did last season.

Wednesday 7th April. We have today received an email from the parks department saying that the bowling greens will open on May 3rd following the WG review on 23rd April. Why the greens cannot open on Monday 26 April is baffling.
Friday 9th April. Good news. It has now been confirmed, our summer season will start week commencing 26th April. Our first session, weather permitting, will be on Monday 26th April starting at 11.30am,.
I will be phoning every registered player to make sure everyone understands their responsibilities of playing in this pandemic year. I'm sure you will remember how we were organized at the latter end of the summer season last year, there are no major changes in the guidelines for the start of this season. The main thing is, the clubhouse is still out of bounds except for the use of the toilets, (one in one out). We will be making a draw for the order of phoning you to book a session. We will begin with the normal Tuesday, Friday and Saturday mornings 11.30 till 12.30 and Monday to Friday evenings 5.00 till 6.30pm. We are optimistic that use of the clubhouse will be restored in the not too distant future and refreshments will be available, in the meantime, I understand the Dunraven Hotel will be open outdoors. Nick has improved the outdoor facilities, there is now a bigger covered area with heating. See latest news to refresh the guidelines
Saturday 17th April. Chairman Sam Morgan came to the club this morning to look at the changes we have made for the opening of our summer season. He was impressed and satisfied that the safety of our members is in the fore-front of our planning.
I had a phone call from Brenda informing me of the sad news that Bill Owen has passed away. Although Bill has suffered ill-health for some time, he had a positive attitude to life and took every opportunity to ride his bike and keep active. I will pass on our condolences to his wife Evelyn and his family. REST IN PEACE BILL.

Sunday 18th April. Our summer season will start week commencing 26th April. Our first session, weather permitting, will be on Monday 26th evening 5.00 - 6.30pm and the morning sessions will start on Tuesday 27th at 11.30am -
12.30pm
Monday 19th April. We have been informed that the opening of the summer season will be delayed for approx. 4 weeks. This is because of a Leatherjacket infestation. Details in "Latest News".
Tuesday 20th April. Following the postponement of the summer season which is a bitter disappointment, we have been considering, call it Plan B. The WG's road map suggests that towards the second half of May, pubs and restaurants will be allowed to serve customers indoors, sports centres will open etc,. With that in mind, I believe that we could play indoor short mat bowls until our green is usable. If that is the case, we are considering the same timetable as for the summer season except the evening sessions would start at 5.30 instead of 5.00pm. We will be discussing this Plan B with you shortly. everything will be reviewed as necessary.
Friday 23rd April. The WG in their review today gave the go-ahead for indoor activities to commence on Monday May 3rd. Therefore our Summer season/indoor sessions will begin on Monday May 3rd at 5.30pm. You will be contacted next Thursday between 4.30 and 6.00pm to book slots.
Good News. The bowling green has been seeded today.
Monday 26th April. Good News. The parks department continued their progress at the green by watering yesterday.
Tuesday 27th April. Thanks to Chris Stewart for organising a get-together lunch at the Dunraven Hotel. While we were there, we could see the parks staff watering the green again which is very encouraging for our members who can't wait to play on it again.
Thursday 29th. The parks staff were continuing their work on the green yesterday, spraying what could be fertilizer, or watering with the agent that will attack the leatherjackets. It suggests that their treatment of the green is almost complete and it will then take around approximately 4 weeks to show improvement. I must say, I am pleased with the progress they have made. Our thanks to the parks department.
