APRIL 2017 NEWSLETTER

Wednesday 12th April. Happy 70th Birthday to one of our members, Sylvia.

Saturday 15th April. First day of the new season, it's cold but sunny and a good turnout by our members. It was nice to see Gemma and her family visit all the way from Bath and little Riley who is now 11 months old.
During our tea and coffee after playing, I informed the members of what had been happening since the close of last season, meetings, funding news and a new project for the winter. I think we ought to mention Phil Watts' first bowl of the season, right on the Jack, keep it up Phil.

Monday 17th April. We didn't know what to expect tonight, being a Bank Holiday, it wan't raining, it was a lovely evening, also we didn't expect many to turn up but we were wrong there as well, it was a good turnout.
As usual, we can see the difference in our junior members by how they have grown since last season. The introduction of games in the clubhouse is already proving to be popular.

Tuesday 18th April. Lucky today, another sunny day, we welcomed a new member, Rose Beswick. Good bowling in the evening session, one of the rinks played an unusual 5 aside. Sam's girlfriend Jodie had a taster session and enjoyed.

Wednesday 19th April. Lovely night, good bowling. We welcomed two new bowlers tonight, Darren Jones and Brian Stephens. On rink 1 we also had 2 families enjoying a new experience playing bowls, that's what our club is all about.

Thursday 20th April. Another fine night. Some new young bowlers coming for their taster session also a good night with the games in the clubhouse. nice to see Susan Anderson back on form.

Friday 21st April. Two good sessions today, weather great for bowling and the green running well, indoor games very popular. Nice to see Ann Jones back today.

Saturday 22nd April. First full week of the season complete and it's been a great start, no rain, busy every session. We are now members of both County and WBA Associations. We wished Keith a fond farewell as he goes off to sail his boat. Good news for Cian who will be leaving us in July to go to Canada for 6 weeks with the Army.

Monday 24th April. The Monday League got underway today, we were away to Gelligaled. Although we lost the match on both rinks, it was an enjoyable afternoon.
In the evening the weather looked a little unsettled but the Junior Club went ahead as normal and although a little cold, the evening ended up sunny, we had some juniors taking taster sessions and enjoyed a game in the pavilion to end the session.

Tuesday 24th April.  First school session of the season with Penyrenglyn today. Started off well in sunshine, 10 minutes later, Hailstones. we all went back in the clubhouse and played games. The children loved it.

Thursday 27th April.  First target game of the season went well, Keith is back and on the Jack, club games are a big hit.

Friday 28th April.  At our adult session today we had 2 visitors Ann brought her daughter Vicki and we had our oldest visitor yet, David Evans from, Ynyswen who is 85 years young. David has only just come out of hospital and Meriel Gough (Community Coordinator Rhondda Valleys) referred him to us, both enjoyed their visit.
As for the bowls, some good bowling today, Sylvia was back in good form following her knee operation last season.
Mair Trott is off on a cruise for a couple of weeks and she carries our best wishes for a good holiday.
