October 2020 Newsletter
Saturday 3rd October. As I'm about to write today's newsletter, I realised that it's three years ago today that Kay passed away.
Ty Ross phoned me to give the good news that David Evans's Covid-19 test was negative.
We hope that everyone is keeping well. This week I placed the order for blinds for the clubhouse, they will be in place in about three weeks, we will then put the clubhouse ready for use.
Monday 5th October. I am pleased to report that the Track and Trace record for the summer has now passed the 21 day period since we finished the season. I would like to thank all our members, chairman Sam Morgan and Chris Sheridan for their support in making the summer season enjoyable and safe.
Saturday 10th October. Ty Ross phoned me yesterday to say that David Evans is now a patient in Prince Charles Hospital. They said they will keep me informed of his condition.
Susan Anderson and Margaret Shewring have birthdays next Thursday and we wish them a happy birthday.
Sunday 11th October. Welsh bowls have indicated that the indoor bowls season will start on Saturday 24th October.
I am planning to start our winter indoor bowling on Tuesday 27th October, although we may have to review this should there be changes in the Welsh Government and Welsh Bowls guidelines. I will be phoning all members in the coming days to have their views on playing, some members may not be ready to play at the present time and this is understandable.
Although the sessions will not be as they were before the virus, we will endeavour to make it an enjoyable experience.
Instead of the two mat format, it will be one mat to maintain social distancing, masks or visors will be worn throughout the session. Players will be seated except for when it's their turn to bowl. No player will touch another players bowls, instruction for the jack, mat etc, will be given at the session. All other information you need to know will be published on our Latest News page. All equipment used by the players and all the club facilities, toilets, tables, chairs, touching points etc, will be cleaned and sanitized before, during and after every session. The sessions will be one per day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 11.30 am till 12.30. Players will be guaranteed one session each week. Players will need to bring their own sanitizer to use throughout the session. Cleaning and sanitizing products will be available in the toilets for players to use before and after use, paper towels will be supplied. Please read the Latest News page for further details of how the club will be organized and for members to know how to play their part in us having a safe season.
Monday 12th October. Keith Bond phoned today to ask how everybody is. He has given us his phone number and if anyone would like to have it, just ask, he would love to hear from you. We have now received our latest funding and we can look forward to the improvements in our facilities.
Friday 16th October. Hope everyone is well. Those of you who have been reading the Newsletter will have some understanding of where we are at the moment. I am waiting to hear what the Welsh Government are going to tell us next week to see if we can proceed with the start of the winter season on the 27th October or if it will be delayed.
Two of our members, Maureen and Lynne, celebrate birthdays next week on Wednesday 21st and we wish them both Many Happy Returns of the Day for that day.
Monday 19th October. Today's announcement by the Welsh Government came as no surprise. This means that we will not be able to start our winter season on the 27th October. We will of course, have to wait till after the "Fire Breaker" comes to an end before we can give a new starting date for the winter season.
Chris and I, wish you all well.
Thursday 22nd October. I received a phone call from the hospital today giving me an update on David Evans's condition. I was told he has Pneumonia and is on oxygen but he is not responding to treatment and is very ill. They said if he doesn't improve in the next 24 hours, they will withdraw treatment. They will contact me with an update tomorrow. As you will know, David would be 89 years old on the 30th October.
Tuesday 27th October. Royal Glamorgan Hospital phoned to inform me that David Evans had passed away peacefully this afternoon.
David joined our club a few years ago following a spell in hospital and feeling the need to get out of the house and meet people. He enjoyed playing bowls and particularly the social side of the club. When the time came that he couldn't participate any more, he became a resident of Ty Ross Care Home. He enjoyed himself at Ty Ross, the staff looked after him and he liked the company.
Our condolences go to his family and friends. REST IN PEACE DAVID
