Treherbert Bowls Club Review of 2018
INTRODUCTION
We started 2018 with the second half of our winter season in progress. We decided to make funding applications this year to include more Kurling equipment and extra bowls.
THE SPORT
The winter season was completed. Keith Bond winning the Bowls competition, Mair Trott winning the Kurling, Susan Anderson winning the Points competition and Sam Morgan winning the Head Basket competition. Well done to all the winners and what a fantastic winter season we had. This being our first winter season has proved to be a very popular facility in the community and will continue well into the future.
We played in the RBBA Monday league again this season We had mixed results. The team was well supported in numbers and completed our fixtures without cancellations. Phil Watts organized the target competition which was won by Christine Stewart. Thank you, Phil, and Well-done Chris.
We were invited by Pengelli Pensioners to play a friendly match and we gladly accepted.
We played the first game at home and followed that with an away game at Pengelli’s green. The matches were played in a great spirit and was enjoyed by all. Refreshments were provided after both games. Thank you to everyone involved.
The school’s program between Penpych and Penyrenglyn Primary Schools went ahead again this year. The Annual Challenge match was won by Penpych. The trophies were presented by PCSO Natasha Foster.
Thank you to all those involved in helping at this event.

CENTENARY
This year Treherbert Bowls Club celebrated its 100th birthday.
We held a celebration lunch in the clubhouse. We had a buffet which was provided by our members followed by entertainment organized by a group of our members. Club Chairman Sam Morgan cut the Centenary cake which was made by Chris Sheridan.
Clive expressed his thanks to everyone involved in what turned out to be a fantastic celebration.
RADIO WALES.
We were invited by Radio Wales to show Beverly Griffiths the facilities at our club and have a taster session to give her the opportunity, in view of her retirement, for her to find an activity that she might want to participate in. Beverly enjoyed her bowls session and along with the BBC reporter and sound engineer, joined us for our usual refreshments in the clubhouse, they also took part in our quiz. The recording was aired on the Wyn Evans radio program.
Thank you to the BBC and Beverly for the visit which everyone in the club enjoyed and we wish Beverly a long and happy retirement.
PEOPLE WHO MAKE IT HAPPEN
All these activities need organizing and we could not have achieved such a successful and enjoyable year without the support and help of many people.
Thank you to the First Aid Team (Clive Sheridan and Mike Lias renewed their First Aid Qualification this year)
Our coaching team. Particularly those who helped with the school’s program and Challenge Match.
Meriel Gough for allowing us to assist her community work which she does so well.
Thank’s to Chris Sheridan for doing so many things to help the club, particularly the work she does with the Junior Club.
THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT IN MAKING TREHERBERT BOWLS CLUB A PLEASURE TO BE INVOLVED WITH.
FINALLY.
I would like to thank everyone who came to Treherbert Bowls Club throughout the year, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and we’ll see you in 2019
