JULY 2016 Newsletter
Tuesday 5th July. A Dry day at last. Good morning session but no school session today. We welcomed Treherbert Brownies to our green tonight. They enjoyed a session of bowls and then had refreshments in the clubhouse followed by a game of Quoits. 2 Teams of 6 (A & B) ended in a draw with team B winning the play-off.
Friday 8th July. Gemma and Gareth turned up at our session this-morning with their new baby Riley, also Marian called in with her little dog. Penpych school had their afternoon session 28 pupils, we took a class photo, (see schools gallery). Sam had an interview this-afternoon for the position of Maths Tutor at a local comprehensive school and while we were playing bowls in the evening, he had a phone call to say he had been successful, well done Sam.
Monday 11th July. Pairs Tournament Match tonight between Anthony and Ann and Susan and Dymphna. They all enjoyed a good match of 10 ends with Anthony and Ann going through to next round. Very busy night, 6 rinks in use as well as the quoits in the Pavilion in action. Last but not least, Sam's Graduation day today, (photo in gallery), we are all proud of you Sam.
Tuesday 12th July. Preparing for the Festival Match tomorrow while our Tuesday Adult Session enjoyed their game.
Jean's hand is getting better now but we understand Sylvia's not very good at the moment , we all wish her well and hope she will be able to come back before the end of the season.
2 pairs matches played tonight, Sam and Phil were knocked out by Alun and Rhys, and Gary and Clive (me) knocked out Mair and Lauren.
Wednesday 13th July. We welcomed the Rhondda Borough Bowling Association's Festival Match versus The Mid-Glamorgan Bowling Association to our green. We were invited to provide a rink, Sam Morgan, Alun Howells, Gary Culverhouse and Clive Sheridan played for our club.
Tonight we had our first open Wednesday of this season, the junior players had a target competition followed by a Quoits competition. They had refreshments afterwards.
Tuesday 19 July. This was the "Big Event" in our season, the School Challenge Match between Penpych Primary and Penyrenglyn Primary Schools. 48 Pupils filling the green to capacity on a hot summers afternoon. They played 5 ends to the jack and then 4 ends to the target. This years match was a very even contest and the final score reflected this, Penyrenglyn winning by 1 point. The cups were presented in a packed pavilion by Julie Price (RCT Sport). Julie also presented a certificate to Alun Howells who has recently awarded "Volunteer of the Month" by RCT.
Clive then thanked the coaching team for refereeing the match along with all the other duties of the day and throughout the season, working with the schools, also Brenda and Susan for organizing the refreshments, he passed on his thanks to the Head Teachers of the schools and the staff who have supported this joint project again this season. Clive wished all the students who will be leaving for the Comprehensive this year, every success and reminded them that they could still visit Treherbert Bowls Club after school. Wednesday 20th July. Today we entertained Hafod Tenancy Support Group, they enjoyed their afternoon bowling and refreshment afterwards. Arrangements have been made for further visits.
