August 2020 Newsletter

Saturday 1st August.   Our first week allowing 8 players per session has been successful with everyone feeling safe.
The booking system worked well with all slots allocated. We welcomed back Lauren Howells and she really enjoyed her game. We are looking forward and planning how we can operate safely inside the pavilion when the guidelines allow.
Monday 3rd August.   Good start to another fully booked week. Our new members are enjoying the bowling experience.  Disappointment that David Havard and Pat were unable to come today, we all wish them well.
Tuesday 4th August.   Lovely session in the morning all our players are playing to a good standard, it's particularly pleasing to see Mary Jones back and playing well. Regrettably our evening session was cancelled due to bad weather.
Friday 7th August.   Very warm day. Two good sessions. Geraint Davies visited today, we talked about the way our club was coping with Covid-19 and I outlined our plans for the winter season. Geraint always shows interest in the activity at our club and we appreciate that.
Saturday 8th August.   Perfect conditions for todays bowling session. The summer season will end five weeks today, we are now beginning to plan for the winter season.
This photo shows you how the clubhouse can accommodate social distancing for eight players with the short mat on the opposite side.

The way of playing safely and  organizing  safe socializing is in the planning. This outline planning for the winter season is being thought through under the present guidelines for indoor activity.
Monday 10th August.   I was allowed to visit David Evans this morning for the first time since the lock-down. I was very pleased to see how well David was, you will see from the photograph in the 2020 Summer Season Gallery, that he has put on weight and he did recognise me.
Tuesday 11th August.   Good session this morning in very hot weather. Evening session started a little bit later because of a heavy shower.
Margaret Green had her operation today. We wish her well.
Wednesday 12th August,   Margaret Green is now recovering from her operation yesterday.
The evening session went ahead on the hottest day of the year, well done all those who took part.
Friday 14th August.   Good morning session, the green playing very well. Regrettably, the weather deteriorated and the evening session was cancelled.
Saturday 15th August.   The weather eased up for us to play the session. We all wished Cian a Happy Birthday.
While they were playing outside, I arranged what could be, the lay-out with social distancing, if we are able begin what used to be the normal of a cup of tea following the session.

The members who were present were shown the layout and approved it saying "It was better than most places for social distancing and they would feel safe".
Tuesday 18th August.    Morning session cancelled. Evening session went well, everyone turned up, nice sunny evening.
Wednesday 19th August.   We talked to Dymphna today, she is still playing bowls, she tells us that they are playing with reduced numbers, (6 in fact) and their toilets are closed. We wish her well.
Friday 21st August .   No sessions today due to poor weather. Clive is spending a couple of days in hospital as he has been quite unwell this week with suspected kidney stones. Get well soon Clive. Everyone sends their kind wishes.
Saturday 22nd August.   No sessions again today due to bad weather and the good news is, Clive is home from hospital.
Just a reminder, three weeks today we are due to end the summer season.
Monday 24th August.   Today we started the Memorial Cup Target Competition. There will be 4 trial bowls and then 2 rounds of scoring bowls. Maureen and Susan lead at the moment with 7 points each and Len not far behind with three.
Lauren was unlucky because she scored 10 in the trial but failed to score afterwards. We wished Lauren a nice holiday, she leaves for Spain on Thursday. Clive returned at todays session.
Wednesday 26th August,   Good news, Margaret Green is home from hospital. Lucky with the weather tonight and a good session of bowling. In the target competition 12 players have now had their first round and we have had 7 players scoring, so we have a competition on our hands. Highest scorer tonight was Alan Roberts with 5.
Friday 28th August.   We were lucky today with the weather because we played the two sessions and it was a -pleasure to see the players enjoying and playing so well. I showed the players the lay-out in the clubhouse for the winter season to get their views on the social distancing. They gave me positive feed back. In the target competition Alun Clemas climbed into second place with a score of 6.
Saturday 29th August.   Lovely morning. Invited more players to view the winter lay-out in the clubhouse. 3 Players did their target competition and they all scored 3.
