October 2017 Newsletter
Tuesday 3rd October.
It is with deepest regret that I have to report the sad news that Kay Leyshon has passed away.
It is only a few short weeks since Kay was told she had Terminal Cancer, In that time, she has taken every opportunity she could to spend with us at Treherbert Bowls Club and we will be forever grateful for her generosity. It is only a week today, she bravely came to our End of Season Dinner and I will always remember and be proud of the spontaneous applause you members gave her.
Since the day Kay joined our club, she put her heart and soul into taking a full part in all aspects of membership, whenever I wanted her opinion about how the club was running or changes I might be thinking about, she was always prepared to be frank and honest. Kay loved playing bowls where she often played Skip and had the respect of everyone who played with her. She became an assistant coach and particularly enjoyed the school sessions. We all appreciated Kay's company, especially when we had tea and biscuits after a bowls session, she was lively, witty and anything for fun she was first in line.
The last session she played with us, was as it happens, the last session of the season. She was determined to be there. She put everything into that session, the way she wanted photos taken, the way she walked up the green with Mike supporting her, These are moments that will stay with us along with so many others.
Writing this newsletter letter has been particularly difficult and I do so with a heavy heart.
Kay will always be remembered in the clubhouse at Treherbert Bowls Club.
REST IN PEACE Kay.
Wednesday 4th October. I had an appointment yesterday with Daniel Williams (Communities First), to show him the new facilities installed in the clubhouse for use during the winter.
Saturday 14th October. Winter Games Opening Day.
We first had a brief meeting to discuss Kay's funeral.
We heard today that Dickie has been diagnosed with Leukemia and will begin treatment next week, we wish him well and hope to see him back with us very soon.
Great turnout for our opening session, we used the new facilities, Short Mat Bowling and Kurling, the new games were enjoyable and everyone was up for the new challenge, lots of laughing and clapping and I think we are all looking forward to an enjoyable winter.
Tuesday 17th October. Very enjoyable morning session, everyone is getting to grips with the new facilities and all comments are positive. In the afternoon our 2 local Councillors, Geraint Davies and Will Jones visited to see the new facilities, tried out a few of the games available to the community throughout the winter and gave it a thumbs up. In the evening we had our first junior session of the winter season which went well, once again with positive feed-back, all in all an exciting day.
Friday 20th October. Club closed today in respect of it being Kay's funeral.
Saturday 21st October. A good turnout on a foul morning, we are all enjoying the new facilities. Dickie called in which pleased everyone.
Tuesday 24th October. Our session went ahead today despite the horrific weather. There was a lot of quality bowling in this session. Tyrone Oliver had his first session, played Kurling and enjoyed himself.
Tuesday 31st October. A special day - The official start of the use of our new winter facilities, the ceremony was performed by Julie Price, RCT Community Sport Officer.
